Thank you very much. Kevin Thank you so much. I had a Word doc that was causing problems in my Win 7 laptop. Not sure why but when I tried to open the doc it crashed my Word program and then I noticed the righ-click issue was crashing win explorer.

Downloaded and ran shellexview, at first didn't see any help. Turned off ALL the context handlers then one at a time turned them on. They're all on and all is working Pete worked aresome in wondows 7 64 bit.

I though my drive was going bad. I started having this problem of right click crashing Windows explorer about 2 days after I had installed Tortoise SVN client which comes with a context menu. I searched the web for all "context menu, windows explorer hangs" keywords and tried different solutions.

The following link has some info and a download to ShellExView which you can use to selectively disable third party context menu handlers to find out a problematic one:. You could try disabling all non-Microsoft context menu handlers and then, if the problem resolves, re-enable them one at a time to see which one was the problem.

I'm having an issue similar to, but MUCH more destructive than, the one described in the first comment by Ms. Cushing: the Explorer Shell continuously crashes and restarts every few seconds to minutes, and every single Explorer crash in the Administrative Events log is followed one or two seconds later by a Warning regarding Windows Hello for Business akin to what she described:.

I have exactly the same problem - with the same message - also on a new Dell laptop. But I'm using Office which I installed, not the free version - for a month - of Office which is still there. Maybe I should uninstall it?

I eventually solved it in the same way as the original poser of the question. I deinstalled Office , or at least the idividual programmes - Word, Powerpoint, Excel - and the problem went away. The trial period had ended but that didn't stop the problem. I now just have Office and it's all fine. Before I found the real culprit of my instance I had uninstalled Office because of reports like this one. Doing so was a destructive one-way trip for me, because it was a digital purchase and while I still had the license key I had lost the downloaded installer to a disk failure and could not download it again.

Either by turning on the preview pane or turning them both off. So I am not surprised that re-installing Office apps would also fix it. It would fix this integration of Office with the Windows 10 File Explorer details pane. Products 72 Special Topics 41 Video Hub Most Active Hubs Microsoft Teams. Security, Compliance and Identity. Since this issue will affect clients that not only single but all major Windows versions so could we first try to test by disabling the offline file feature on these problematic computers and see if we can reproduce it?

Tiger Li. TechNet Community Support. This unfortunately did not solve the issue. We also used wireshark to capture packets on a workstation during an event. Unfortunately we were unable to find any useful information using this method either.

However we have been able to narrow down the issue. It seems to happen when we are using the dfs share and then during the session the dfs share changes from one server to another.

We can replicate the issue by logging on to the share and then forcing it another server.
